A group of dancers, united by a shared frustration with exclusion, come together to reclaim space in Ottawa’s dance community. Steps to Inclusivity is both a celebration of culture and style, and a call for greater diversity and representation in the arts.

Through the leadership of Chloë Bonnet and Zeeggy Mercy, the film highlights stories of dancers who have often felt pushed aside, showing the power of movement as resistance, expression, and connection. Each step is both personal and political, a reminder of the work still needed to create inclusive spaces.

I’m grateful to the dancers who shared their stories and to CBC’s Creator Network for supporting this vision. Steps to Inclusivity is only the beginning of a larger movement toward equity in the dance world, and further proof that one step forward can inspire many more.
